Cotton University Gauhati University bring laurels to State

Staff ReporterGUWAHATI: A 37-member contingent from Cotton University won the overall Champion title in the literary category in the recently concluded 35th National-Inter University Youth Festival held in Amity University, Uttar Pradesh held from February 3 to February 7. The contingent of CU won gold medal in quiz and bronze medal in folk orchestra and folk dance competitions. Gauhati University won 12 different prizes in various categories and this is the first participation of the university in the National Youth Festival. Surya Kumar Saikia won gold medal in collage and poster making and the silver medal in 'on-the-spot painting' competition. GU team also won Gold medal in Folk Orchestra, Silver medal in Cultural rally and bronze medal in group song competitions as well.

Staff Reporter GUWAHATI: A 37-member contingent from Cotton University won the overall Champion title in the literary category in the recently concluded 35th National-Inter University Youth Festival held in Amity University, Uttar Pradesh held from February 3 to February 7. The cultural troupe of Gauhati University, on the other hand, was adjudged the second best at the festival. The contingent of CU won gold medal in quiz and bronze medal in folk orchestra and folk dance competitions. The contingent led by Dr. Sayanika Dutta and Muktikam Hazarika, both assistant professors with the Department of Mass Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, also adjudged the second runners-up in the prestigious cultural procession event. It is to be noted that more than 90 universities from across five zones in India participated in the youth festival supported by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Delhi. Meanwhile, the cultural troupe of Gauhati University got the 2nd best university award. Gauhati University won 12 different prizes in various categories and this is the first participation of the university in the National Youth Festival. Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, Director, Students Welfare, GU said among the 12 different prizes, 2nd best team award was achieved by fine arts team comprising Surya Kr Saikia, Nipamoni Deka, Saurav Saha, Gyan Pratim Deva Sarma and they won silver medal in Installation competition. Surya Kumar Saikia won gold medal in collage and poster making and the silver medal in on-the-spot painting competition. While Gyan Pratim Deva Sarma won silver medal in cartooning completion, Debarathi Saha won gold medal in the classical dance whereas Priyanku Pratim Bora won bronze medal in classical instrumental solo (non percussion) competition. GU team also won Gold medal in Folk Orchestra, Silver medal in Cultural rally and bronze medal in group song competitions as well. The contingent was led by Ashwini Kumar Deka and Kuldeep Patgiri.
