The Executive Committee of the Assam Old Age Home on Friday announced that it is all set for the formal inauguration of the old age home on February 23. The committee said that the prime focus behind the establishment of this old age home is to extend a helping hand to the poor and helpless senior citizens of the society. The committee said that the aim is to accommodate a total of 100 people; however, they are not yet ready to reach the target due to the financial crisis. The committee has made the home ready to accommodate 8 people. Hence from February 23 four people will start living there. General Secretary of Assam Old Age Home, Dr. Nripen Das said, “Through donations, we have collected the necessary accessories. We have a total of 80-90 members who have helped us and in the days ahead the expenses will be managed by the members. We want to appeal to the people and other organizations if they are willing to help us. We will not take a penny from those elders coming to the old age home. However, we have decided some criteria for the people to stay in the old age home- such as; he/she must be a senior citizen and must not have any shelter.” Also Read: Hailakandi administration steps up old age pension drive Also Watch: Assam Police destroyed Opium poppy plantation in South Salmara once again
