Forest staffers of Kaziranga National Park and three social workers related to numerous wildlife safety and conservation actions in the nationwide park, arrested earlier now confessed to their involvement in rhino horn smuggling.

10 individuals have been arrested in the previous three days for his or her involvement with rhino horn smuggling. They had been produced in court docket that allowed the park authorities to take them to their custody for 3 days until Monday. Two forest staffers had been recognized as Habibur Rahman and Ashok Bhuyan. Both are working as mahout (elephant rider) on the park’s Kohora forest vary. The three social workers had been recognized as Rameswar Signar, Hariram Ingti and Biman Taro. 

Divisional forest officer (Kaziranga) Ramesh Gogoi mentioned,“ The five arrested persons have confessed to their involvement in rhino horn smuggling. They had handed over the rhino horn to a person in Diphu, who subsequently handed over the same to another smuggler in Nagaland. Our investigation is on to recover the horn and to bust the racket.”

Accused individuals are in the custody of Kaziranga forest staffers and interrogation is on. He also mentioned including that in floods, forest staffers discovered rhino carcasses. Horns had been discovered intact whereas on different events they had been discovered lacking. After receding of floodwaters, the horns had been recovered by forest staffers and deposited with park authorities.
