Assam Elections: Badruddin Ajmal's AIUDF claims support of 5-6 BJP contestants

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), which is contesting with the Congress-led Grand Alliance in Assam, claimed on Tuesday that five-six BJP candidates approached the party to support the Congress-led grand alliance in the recently concluded Assam assembly elections; however, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rejected these claims.

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), which is contesting with the Congress-led Grand Alliance in Assam, claimed on Tuesday that five-six BJP candidates approached the party to support the Congress-led grand alliance in the recently concluded Assam assembly elections; however, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rejected these claims.

Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, one of the 20 AIUDF candidates sent to Jaipur last week, told news agency PTI that "five-six BJP candidates approached me to support the grand alliance due to fear of horse-trading by the saffron party, on being asked the names of BJP candidates in contact, AIUDF general secretary Barbhuiya said, "The names cannot be disclosed right now. You will come to know after May 2 (counting)."

Asked whether he is a BJP candidate from Barak or Brahmaputra Valley, the AIUDF leader said, "They are from all over Assam." After the victory, the party-change law will be applied to the BJP candidates if they support the Grand Alliance. On mentioning this, the AIUDF leader said, "They will contest again."

Barbhuiya denied reports of sending 20 AIUDF candidates to Rajasthan due to the possibility of horse-trading a few days ago and claimed that he had gone to visit and Ajmer Sharif Dargah after a rigorous election campaign. Barbhuiya said that he will return to Assam on Monday and the rest of the leaders will also return on Wednesday.

However, BJP spokesperson Roopam Goswami denied the AIUDF`s claims, saying, "None of our candidates is in touch with the opposition party. Our party is disciplined and its members contact any other political party without informing the party leadership." do not do."

Goswami said, "There is no question of contacting AIUDF as BJP will win elections in Assam and form the government." Goswami said tensely, "This is the first time in the history of the country when a political party is claiming to be approached by candidates even before the declaration of the election results."
