Guwahati: Inter-district movement suspended in Assam or 15 days amid record Covid-19 cases, Find all details

Assam reported 6,394 new cases of Covid-19 and 92 deaths on Monday. This is the highest single-day figure since the Covid-19 outbreak last year.

The Assam government on Monday decided to suspend the inter-district movement of people and vehicles from May 21 for 15 days, amid a record number of Covid-19 cases and deaths in the state. The latest order of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) stated, "It has been observed that the level of cases of Covid-19 increased with unabated Inter-District Movement.

Assam reported 6,394 new cases of Covid-19 and 92 deaths on Monday. This is the highest single-day figure since the Covid-19 outbreak last year. The infection rate, hovering between 8% and 9% in the last few days, came down to 6.99%.

Restrictions on inter-district movement will not apply to government officials, emergency and essential services, travel for medical emergencies and Covid-19 vaccinations, etc.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of several more such waves similar to the second wave of the Covid-19 epidemic in the country. However, it said that everything would depend on the scale of vaccination in the country. The organization said that if more population is vaccinated then the new wave will not have a massive effect.
