Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has submitted data for the Phase III clinical trial of Covaxin to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI).

Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech has submitted data for the Phase III clinical trial of Covaxin to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). DCGI is expected to approve the data after reviewing these figures on Tuesday. A data review meeting is being held ahead of Bharat Biotech`s `pre-submission meeting with the World Health Organization (WHO) to approve the Covaxin.

Bharat Biotech had said that according to the results of Phase III, Covaxin has shown efficacy of 78 percent against mild, moderate and severe cases of Covid-19. The Hyderabad-based drugmaker faced heavy criticism due to the delay in releasing data for the third phase of the vaccine trial.

DCGI approved Covaxin for emergency use in India in January based on Phase I and Phase II trials. Amidst the delay in releasing the data of Covaxin, it was claimed in the initial study that the Covishield vaccine produces more antibodies in the war against Corona than Bharat Biotech`s Covaccine.

It was seen in the study that after 2 doses of the vaccine, the same antibodies were found in 98 percent of those who took Covishield, the same amount was found in 80 per cent of those who received Covaxin.

Covishield

Serum Institute of India`s Covishield has an efficacy of 81.3 percent if two doses are given 12 weeks apart.

Sputnik-V

Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine will be given in two doses and it is 91.6 per cent effective.

Novavax

Novavax is an American vaccine that will be produced by Serum Institute in India under the name Covovax. Covovax has an efficacy of 96.4 per cent
