Our Correspondent Itanagar: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has begun reconstructing the bridge over the Subansiri River in the Upper Subansiri district. The dilapidated 430-feet long and 10-feet wide Bailey bridge over the river, at the entry point of the district, headquarter Daporijo, is the lifeline for the people of the district that connects Silapathar in Assams Dhemaji district. The totally rusted bridge under the state public works department (PWD) has been posing a serious risk to the commuters. The works of the bridge were taken up by Project Arunank of the BRO, at the desire of Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently, sources informed here on Saturday. The BRO staff under the guidance of Project Arunank chief engineer Brig A S Choker has been working with commitment to complete the bridge within a month as road communication holds key to the development of this landlocked State. It may be recalled here that in the wee hours of July 1992, the bridge had collapsed when a night super bus carrying 56 passengers from Silapathar had fallen into the river while approaching Daporijo. All the passengers in the ill-fated bus died in the accident.
