Heavy rains in Jaipur on Friday claims three lives

Jaipur District Collector Antar Singh Nehra informed that some 50 families from the slums of the Jawahar Nagar area have been evacuated.  

Heavy rains in the capital city of Rajasthan have created havoc in the city. Three people are dead and some 50 families from low-lying areas have been moved to a safer place.

Low lying areas in the city have submerged into the water, brining the city to a standstill.

Three people were killed and as many rescued after a jeep was swept away by strong water currents while crossing a bridge in Kanota area where a dam had overflowed, station house officer (SHO) Narendra Singh Khichad said.

One person has been admitted to the hospital for treatment, he said.

The deceased were identified as Ramapratap, Paro Devi and Kanu, police said.

According to a spokesperson of the MeT Department, Jaipur recorded 80 mm rainfall between 8.30 am and 11.30 am. A total of 132 mm was recorded between Friday morning and evening in Jaipur and 102.6 mm at the Jaipur airport.
