SCHOOL NOTESJalandhar: Department of Chemistry , Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar organised "Career Counselling in Chemistry" under the DBT Star College Scheme by Dr. Subodh Kumar, Professor, Department of Chemistry, GND University Amritsar for undergraduate students. Dr Subodh made students aware about the core areas of job avenues in Chemistry including teaching, research, industry and global opportunity. The most important of these are the free vocational training for girls and women of rural areas in the college. He enlightened students about the real challenges of Chemistry, with respect to job opportunities with Chemistry as one of the subjects graduate and master level. Dr. Subodh Kumar and also appreciated the endeavour of the Department of Chemistry adding that it should be a regular feature in the curriculum.—TNSAnnual functionJalandhar: Mayor Galaxy, the pre-primary wing of Mayor World School, celebrated its Annual Function.

The entire show was based on the theme 'One World One Dream'. It was a message from the little ones to spread love, affection and solidarity in the world which was full of hatred and violence as to love and beloved was the greatest need of the hour. The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp ceremony by the eminent Chief Guest Deepika Singh (ACP) Jalandhar, respected School Chairman Rajesh Mayor and Vice-Chairperson Neerza Mayor. This was followed by the school anthem and prayer song. The little ones showcased a devotional performance exhibiting 'prayers are different God is One'. The children presented multicultural forms of greetings. Delighted cherubs depicted the significance of number seven. —TNS Science Olympiad Foundation Jalandhar: Devanshi Munjal, a student of IV-red form Swami Sant Dass Public School, Phagwara gave a commendable performance by securing 1st rank in IEO, NSO, IMO and NCO at the school at first level and thus made herself eligible for the second level where she again secured praiseworthy positions getting 11th rank in IMO with certificate of zonal excellence, 26th rank in NSO and 74th rank in IEO with merit certificates at zonal level. Not only this, she showed her excellence in NSTSE -2018 also by securing first rank in the class and 8th rank at the state level. The Principal, Anju Mehta congratulated her and her parents for the performance.—TNS Prizes in CTSE Jalandhar: Around 60 students of PCM SD Collegiate Senior Secondary Girls School qualified in the 12th Commerce Talent Search Examination (CTSE), National Level Test (2017-18). Kiran, Kashish and Shaheen of class 12 and Nandita, Khushi and Riya of class 11 won first, second and third prizes, respectively. Such tests sharpen the aptitude and skills of the commerce students and provide an excellent exposure. Principal Dr Kiran Arora and in charge Kusum Midha congratulated the winners, their parents and members of the staff on the achievement. —TNS Camp for rural women Jalandhar: Gandhian Studies Centre of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, conducted a one-day camp at Mubarakpur Sheikhe village for the village women. During the camp the women were given a lecture on the importance of health and hygiene. A workshop of block printing, hair styling and make up was also organised. It is worth mentioning here that since its establishment in 2008, the Gandhian Studies Centre has been actively involved in various social extension programmes. The most important of these are the free vocational training for girls and women of rural areas in the college. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated Dr Monica Sharma, Director of the Gandhian Studies Centre, for the social outreach initiatives of the department.—TNS
