DC tells officials to move in boats to provide relief to stranded villagers

Tribune News ServiceJalandhar, August 22In a step aimed at providing immediate relief to the people stranded due to floods in various villages of Shahkot subdivision, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today ordered constitution of special mobile teams on boats to move house-to-house in flood-hit villages from tomorrow morning for providing food and health facilities for people besides fodder for their cattle. Presiding over a meeting with heads of various departments in Lohian, the DC said that two boats, including officials of food and civil supply, health, animal husbandry on one boat and medicines, ration, fodder on the second boat with the help of SDRF and NDRF would cover the flood-hit villages. He said each team would visit house to house in these villages on boats and would rescue willing person as people are reluctant to leave their houses. The DC directed the heads to fix the duties of the officials who will be part of the mobile teams and clearly said that there must not be any kind of laxity otherwise strict action would be taken. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Kulwant Singh, SDM-II Paramvir Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Kaur Chawla, Superintendent of Police RPS Sandhu, District Epidemiologist Dr Satish Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
