65-year-old man distributes hot milk among flood-hit

He said he had also witnessed the 1988 floods and lent out a healing hand to people even then as a youth. Jalandhar, August 23 A 65-year-old man, Swaran Singh, was today seen going around in boats and delivering hot milk to flood-hit residents. Along with the NDRF team, the man who has got retired from the Railways Department, was too helping the villagers. Singh was too familiar with the ways which were leading to submerged flood-affected areas. He said he had also witnessed the 1988 floods and lent out a healing hand to people even then as a youth. “I used to carry lot of material to provide the victims back then. We have seen so much in life and now, that the floods have come again, I am making sure that no one has to go through lack of food and water,” said Singh while he was accompanying this correspondent and the NDRF teams to Nasirpur village. He said daily he takes milk and other necessary items for the flood victims. His son who works abroad had also sent lakhs of rupees to help the victims. Singh was also seen directing the NDRF teams to go to those places where there was more need of food and other things. Elderly, specially abled stuck atop their homes The elderly and specially abled have also stuck on the terrace that too without any tarpaulin and other thing to cover them. They said they were forced to live in scorching heat and humidity throughout the day as their houses were submerged. They were seen demanding more mosquito repellents from the NDRF teams to protect them from various problems. When the NDRF teams goes near villages by boats, they blow a whistle and residents come out from their homes with their demands. They also demand things such as biscuits and medicines.
