Jalandhar, September 21 Finding solutions to the troubles that these budding engineers have to go through during their college days, 32 teams from different institutions of the country today displayed their technology-driven models at the ‘NITJ@Hack’, event here. The event was organised here at BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology Jalandhar (NITJ). The two national events, introduced with the theme, ‘Smart Campus’, are based upon the concept and guidelines of ‘Smart India Hackathon’, that was initiated by the ‘Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD)’ with the objective of providing a national-level platform to inculcate a culture of product innovation among the students. Referring to the difficulties he faced in his hostel for washing the clothes, Surbhit Jangra, a student of BTech Computer Science, NITJ, with his team, The Alchemist, presented the idea of ‘Smart laundry’. He said: “Smart Laundry is an app-based service in which both the service providers and the users could specifically deal with the laundry services. Usually, with their busy schedules, students couldn’t get their clothes washed in time and the timely unavailability of laundry services further make it laborious for them.” “Hence, with the help of this app, both the service providers and the users will be able to communicate easily and segregation of clothes wouldn’t be tough for the laundry man,” he added. They named the application Drople. Similarly, the students, who have arrived from Tamil Nadu displayed their idea of ‘Hostel Management’ using technology. They said, through the app-based service, the students would be able to know the everyday facilities, including food menu available at the hostels. Besides, grievances related to the mismanagement that the students face their hostels could be conveyed to the college authorities and the management effectively. Besides, innovative concepts like smart parking, smart library, gamified green initiative and others, that not only saves time but also prevent the natural resources, stunned the judges. The faculty and the students of the NITJ also introduced the young engineers and the entrepreneurs with Technology Business Incubator (TBI), that was being launched at the college to provide a startup ecosystem to the students. “The best ideas judged in the ongoing event would not only receive cash prize worth Rs 50,000 but also the future assistance by the TBI,” said the Director of the institute, LK Awasthi.
