Protest by PIMS employees enters Day 2

The staff have been discharging patients due to the strike, but the PIMS management has asked them not to do so. The employees have been demanding salaries on a par with those being paid to employees of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), government or private employees. Everything was fine after the change of guard in the PIMS, but with the protest, differences in the institute have come to the fore. It is expected that the employees will continue their protest tomorrow as well.

SALARY HIKE Jalandhar, May 12 The protest by employees of the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) entered its second day outside the institute today. They have been protesting against the lack of hike in their salaries for the past few years. Everything was fine after the change of guard in the PIMS, but with the protest, differences in the institute have come to the fore. It is expected that the employees will continue their protest tomorrow as well. Sukhpal Khaira, AAP MLA from Bholath, is also likely to meet the protesters. The employees have been demanding salaries on a par with those being paid to employees of the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), government or private employees. They said there had been no salary hike in 2017 as per the promises made by the management. The protesters said they had not event received any bonus in the past two years. They said due to lack of man power, the staff were over burdened. They said the BFUHS rules were not adhered to while giving promotions. The new staff had been appointed while ignoring the old, they alleged. The protesters alleged the staff members close to the management got better posts. The staff have been discharging patients due to the strike, but the PIMS management has asked them not to do so. They said if they were not allowed to do so, the resident doctor, medical superintendent and nursing superintendent would be responsible for any misbehavior with patients.
