Education Secretary Krishan Kumar has issued a letter to all department heads stating that no information will be sought manually or by hand from teachers. If it is important to seek the information manually, the permission for the same should be sought from the department,” the letter stated. The Education Secretary has also said if any data is not available online and it needs to be sought manually, the permission for the same will be taken from the Education Department. The new instructions are seen as a step to reduce the burden of undue clerical work from teachers. The Education Secretary also said the department had also come to know that the headquarters, circle education offices, district education offices and block education offices were still seeking information through letters and sometimes by hand.

To reduce burden from teachers, an initiative were also taken after the first EDUSAT session of the Education Secretary and an ensuing letter — shifting the drawing and disbursing powers to principals and school heads. The recent move has alone removed the pendency of conformation and promotion cases — for which these were earlier being routed through the DEOs. A school principal in the district said, “There is a massive change at the ground level because earlier, all our posts and letters were being routed through the DEO, which was a tedious job and was marred by delays. Ever since the school heads got the power, the pendency has been greatly countered because all schools are disposing of their cases at their own level.” While the department had shifted all data regarding children online, most of the data is also available on the website and formal education portals. The department is also making efforts to shift all works, which are currently being done manually, online. The recent letter states that if it is important to take some information, it should be uploaded either on the website or should seek through telephone, email or WhatsApp. The Education Secretary also said the department had also come to know that the headquarters, circle education offices, district education offices and block education offices were still seeking information through letters and sometimes by hand. Due to which, the time of school principals and teachers was also being wasted, he added. “If the department wants to seek any information at any level, the MIS wing should first be consulted. If the information is available, it should be taken from the department. If it is important to seek the information manually, the permission for the same should be sought from the department,” the letter stated.
