JMM's complaint stops voting in Steel City booth

"We recorded 75.14% polling (in Chakulia Nagar Panchayat) with no reports of any untoward incident from any of the polling station," said SDO, Ghatshila, Arvind Kumar Lal. Enthusiastic voter turnout in 140 polling booths across the four civic bodies, was moderate to large with many of them favouring early morning for exercise their rights. "The polling was concluded peacefully amid tight security in the three civic bodies," the SDO said.In the Chakulia Nagar Panchayat, the voter turnout was 75% with women and youngsters taking keen interest in exercising their franchise. "The next date for the polling will be notified by the election commission," said SDO, Seraikela, Sanjiv Kumar Besra.However, polling in the remaining two civic bodies - Adityapur Nagar Nigam and Seraikela Nagar Panchayat - were largely peaceful with isolated incidents of skirmish between polling agents and party workers near polling stations reported from some places. "The average polling percentage in the district was 58% -60% with Seraikela and Kapali recording over 60% and Adityapur over 50% respectively," said SDO, Seraikela.The official also said that one person, identified as Paritosh Singh , was arrested in Adityapur while attempting to cast a bogus vote.

JAMSHEDPUR: The Seraikela-Kharswan district administration cancelled polling for the post of vice-chairman at the Kapali Nagar Parishad following complaints of a malfunction in displaying the JMM symbol.On noticing that that the arrow, which is a part of the bow and arrow symbol of JMM, was partly missing from the symbol affixed at candidate's symbol column in the EVM, the party candidate, Parvez Alam, lodged a complaint with the electoral official following which the Circle Officer of Chandil cum electoral official, Sunil Kumar conducted an enquiry.On finding the same problem at many of the 21 polling stations, the electoral official informed the top hierarchy about the development, following which election to the vice chairman's post was cancelled.
