Will not oppose screening of ‘The Accidental PM’: Congress president

JAMSHEDPUR: The state Congress party on Sunday said it will not oppose the screening of the controversial film, ‘Accidental Prime Minister’ in theaters across Jharkhand. There’s no need for us to stop the screening,” the Congress leader reiterated.Notably, the Kher starrer movie made on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Congress party has evoked criticism from the party but leaders have reacted cautiously.“Filmmaking is a creativity. State party chief Ajoy Kumar said though the film is made with an agenda, Congress will desist from indulging in unlawful and undemocratic means to demonstrate its opposition to the film. The film directed by Vijay Gutte stars Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna as main protagonists.“It’s true that the film is a BJP sponsored one but being a disciplined organisation, we will not create trouble as far as its screening is concerned in this state,” Kumar said addressing a press conference. He highlighted that hooliganism is the character of the “fascist BJP” and not of Congress.Kumar also said any person who has reasonable understanding of the movie can differentiate between a genuine film product and an agenda-driven stuff.“People will see the film and make their own judgement.

It has a liberty of expression, hence we see no reason to interfere and jeopardize its screening,” Kumar saidHe added, “But, apparently worried over the poll debacle in MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the BJP is not letting any opportunity to go waste in spreading falsehood against Congress.”On the Rafale jet fighter deal, Kumar, who is also the national spokesperson of the party, said the the deal’s alleged exposes in the media has perturbed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In response to another query, Kumar said his party may file a PIL in the high court seeking probe into the alleged blanket purchase scam in Jharkhand, which also found mention in the recent CAG report.“We will discuss with our lawyers before going ahead with the PIL,” Kumar added.
