According to the sources in the district administration the survey team shall arrive here in the third week of January for inspection. JAMSHEDPUR: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee on Saturday issued notices to all hotels, restaurants and eateries banning use of coal for cooking food at their establishments with immediate effect, a move which is part of the Swachh Survekshan 2019 which is aimed at ensuring cleanliness and curbing environmental pollution issues. There are over 30 hotels including few star hotels and a considerable chunk of restaurants in the city.Notably, JNAC, which scored 30 in the ranking at the national level in Swachh Survekshan 2018 despite its bid to make it to the top 20 bracket, is visibly making much effort to improve its ranking in 2019. The state capital’s civic body too is now expected to issue similar fiat in a week’s time.Krishna Kumar, JNAC special officer (SO), said, “Any outlet found guilty of not adhering to the orders will have to pay the penalty, which can go up to Rs 30,000 in accordance with the rules of the Jharkhand Municipality Act 2012.” “Along with the restaurants, roadside food vendors too have been asked to use commercial cooking gas only and follow measures to keep the place clean,” he added. In the last four days, the urban municipal body conducted a surprise inspection at the eateries in Kadma and Sakchi and caught a few vendors using coal. The shop owners were let off with reprimand but were asked to use LPGs henceforth.“We have constituted a flying squad that will make surprise visits to the hotels and restaurants for conducting inspection and fine the rule offender then and there,” an official at the municipal body said. The apparent reason behind stopping the use of coal is to ensure there’s no disposal of the coal dust in the vicinity, officials added.A senior functionary of the Jamshedpur Hoteliers Association (JHA) said although there’s no confirmed report of any member hotel using coal at the outlet but even if there’s any covert use of the said fuel at any outlet than they shall ensure it is not used in the light of the administrative order.
