Man held 10 months after hurling shoe at CM Raghubar Das

JAMSHEDPUR: Seraikela Kharswan police arrested Demka Soy, the person who allegedly hurled a shoe at chief minister Raghubar Das in Kharswan on January 1. He managed to evade arrest even though police conducted several raids in the last few months," said Kharswan police station in-charge Narsingh Munda. Soy, in his mid-forties, was on the run for the last 10 months. Soy was among the nine named persons accused of starting the ruckus. Within 48 hours of the incident, the then DC K Srinivasan and SP Sanjiv Kumar were transferred.

JAMSHEDPUR: Seraikela Kharswan police arrested Demka Soy, the person who allegedly hurled a shoe at chief minister Raghubar Das in Kharswan on January 1. Soy, in his mid-forties, was on the run for the last 10 months. Police said Soy was picked up from Oilidih police station area in the outskirts of the Steel City while he was visiting a doctor for a medical check-up late on Thursday evening. He was sent to Seraikela jail on Friday.The incident took place when the CM was on his way to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Kharswan police firing of January 1, 1948. The crowd that had gathered to protest against changes in tribal land laws started to hurl shoes at the CM and the police had to resort to lathicharge to maintain decorum. Soy was among the nine named persons accused of starting the ruckus. Police also filed cases against 150 unnamed accused. Within 48 hours of the incident, the then DC K Srinivasan and SP Sanjiv Kumar were transferred."Soy has been missing since an FIR was lodged against him. He managed to evade arrest even though police conducted several raids in the last few months," said Kharswan police station in-charge Narsingh Munda. "Of the nine named accused, seven, including Soy, have been arrested," police said.A case under Sections 504, 506, 323, 341, 352 and 147 among others have been filed against Soy, who is the coordinator of CNT SPT Bachao Samanvay Samiti, a tribal outfits under Adi Sanskriti Evam Vikas Sansthan, the umbrella organization that organised the protest. He is accused of inciting a section of the protesters to show black flags, hurl shoes and raise slogans to disrupt the programme in protest against the government's move to amend the CNT and SPT Acts during the winter session of the assembly last year.
