Pandey said that on Monday, Chidambaram will again be holding two meetings, of which one will be an extension of the above members while the other meeting will be held with the faculty members and the staff of the IIT.It may be recalled that after the sting of the former chairman of the Board of Governor Goverdhan Mehta over in 2015, the post had been lying vacant. Since then, director Murtyb had been holding the additional charge of chairman but absence of permanent chairman had been affecting the important policy decisions.Besides this, the appointment of the permanent chairman was also imperative, specially in view of the retirement of the director Murty scheduled on September 11 this year and the permanent chairman of BOG is an integral part of the selection committee for the new director.IIT-Jodhpur has presently been grappling with the challenges like shortage of faculty, absence of new branches like chemical and civil engineering, lower ranking leading to low student strength and low research output. The new chairman will have to look in to these relatively weaker areas and will have to work hard to address these issues of the institution.
