Rajasthan governor asks for security to be tightened at Raj Bhawan

During summers, the governor usually stays here and the entire activities of Raj Bhawan, during this period, functions from here. It may be recalled that seven British era guns mounted on wall as decorative pieces were stolen by unidentified persons on Saturday night. But it was in June 2015, when governor Singh had stayed here and the Raj Bhawan remained isolated for the successive summers since then.According to sources, because of this scarce utility of the Raj Bhawan, there was just a staff of three members comprising a guard, a gardener and a sweeper.

JODHPUR: While the hunt for the thieves who stole an ancient gun from Raj Bhawan at Mount Abu is on, the governor of Rajasthan Kalyan Singh has given the directions to the DGP of the state to review the security arrangements at the Raj Bhawan.Singh said that the security arrangements of the Raj Bhawan should be firm and asked the police to take action about the theft with all seriousness. It may be recalled that seven British era guns mounted on wall as decorative pieces were stolen by unidentified persons on Saturday night. These stolen guns were out of nine such guns decorated on walls of the hall of the Raj Bhawan. Taking a serious note of the theft, Singh expressed his concern and gave directions to the DGP Kapil Garg to take the required and expedited steps in the matter.The Raj Bhawan, a summer stay of the governor of the state, had been constructed in 1868 during the British Rule for British officers. Spread across nine Bighas of land, the edifice had been declared Raj Bhawan vide a notification on November 1, 1956. During summers, the governor usually stays here and the entire activities of Raj Bhawan, during this period, functions from here. But it was in June 2015, when governor Singh had stayed here and the Raj Bhawan remained isolated for the successive summers since then.According to sources, because of this scarce utility of the Raj Bhawan, there was just a staff of three members comprising a guard, a gardener and a sweeper. And the burglars took advantage of this situation. Spokesperson of the Raj Bhawan, Lokesh Chandra Sharma said that the guns stolen belonged to British era, which had been left in the house by the English and were quite obsolete for any use.Later, they were mounted on the wall as decorative pieces as a mark of the regality of the bygone era. There was, however, no information available about the make and year of these guns. Police has not been able to achieve any breakthrough till now. A police official said that they have been trying to identify the burglars through CCTV footage obtained from a hotel adjacent to the Raj Bhawan and have also been checking the vehicles to make sure that the stolen guns do not go out of the district.
