CPI(M) youth wing moves NHRC

The student and youth wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) held State-wide protests on Saturday against the alleged assault on their supporters over the past several days. Mr. Mitra said ten DYFI supporters were injured, four of them seriously. Protests were held in several districts of south Bengal, where DYFI supporters blocked railway tracks and SFI and DYFI supporters from several district joined a march from Baghajatin to Jadavpur in the city. State president of the Democratic Youth Federation of India Sayandip Mitra said the organisation had written to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) about the attacks on the party’s supporters. On February 15, ten supporters of the Students Federation of India (SFI) were injured when a protest march to the Raj Bhawan turned violent and the protesters clashed with the police.

The very next day, several were injured when a local train allegedly ran into DYFI supporters squatting on the tracks at Jadavpur Railway station protesting against West Bengal being “ignored” by the Centre in this year’s Railway Budget. Mr. Mitra said ten DYFI supporters were injured, four of them seriously. Protests were held in several districts of south Bengal, where DYFI supporters blocked railway tracks and SFI and DYFI supporters from several district joined a march from Baghajatin to Jadavpur in the city.
