Newly-weds plant 200 saplings

MIDNAPORE: A day after their wedding a couple at Salboni in Jhargram planted 200 saplings in memory of groom Samir Devsindh’s parents. Maoists allegedly killed the 25-year-old’s father, Swapan, on July 14, 2009 and abducted his mother, Anima, a year later. I feel content now that I have planted these trees in their memory,” said Samir. The entire stretch was a Maoist belt till a couple of years ago.“I lost my parents to Maoists. Anima has remains untraced.Samir and his bride Dipika planted the trees on both sides of the road from Menul — the spot where Swapan was killed — to his house at Salboni’s Madhupur village.

Dipika said, “I felt good that I did something like this in memory of my in-laws.”Samir was given a job in the railways in 2009 on the recommendation of then railway minister Mamata Banerjee.
