KOLKATA: The body of a 33-year-old engineer from Sodepur , who was out with his friends, was reportedly found floating in a pond at Gaighata in North 24 Parganas on Monday. Victim Arghya Mukherjee’s body was fished out by locals who took him to hospital. Mukherjee’s family, however, claimed he was murdered.Based on a murder complaint by his family at the Gaighata police station station, his driver, two friends and a colleague have been arrested.According to residents of the area, Mukherjee, a deputy manager of the Shyamnagar office of a battery manufacturing company, had left home for office on Monday morning. “Around 8am, he left home in his car, saying he would go to office as usual. But later, we got to know he went on a trip with his colleague and friends,” said Sashanka Mukherjee, the victim’s uncle.The uncle alleged they had called Arghya repeatedly through the day but his phone went unanswered. “We were later told his body had been fished out of a pond. But his friends, who were with him since morning, didn’t contact us even after he allegedly drowned. We believe he was murdered,” said the uncle.The arrested reportedly told police Mukherjee had stepped into the pond in spite of being drunk. Arindam Mukherjee, Gaighata OC said: “Four accused have been arrested. We are waiting for the autopsy report to arrive ”
