The Class-II student, Anish Das, sustained cuts in his face and right hand. Glass shards hit his cheek and forehead, missing his eye by millimetres. He did not require hospitalization, but was taken to a local clinic for first aid. The app-cab driver, Subhojit Roy, was arrested.Sitting at their south Kolkata apartment complex, Anish and his mother Jayita were still in shock when TOI met them. Anish said his spectacles had saved him from a major injury to his eyes. “He is still in shock. We had never thought a simple altercation could lead to such an assault,” said Jayita.Police said the incident happened around 1.45pm when Anish’s mother was helping him into their car and an app cab came up behind. The driver started honking at the boy.“The app-cab driver was honking constantly and even bumped into the private car in front. There was an altercation between the drivers, after which the private car moved on,” said an officer of Beniapukur police station.However, the driver of the app cab caught up to the other car and dashed it right in front of Mahadevi Birla World Academy. Both drivers then got out of the cars for another round of argument.“Locals intervened and I asked my driver to stop arguing since we were running late. My driver then got back in the car. The other driver was heading back as well, when he turned and threw his cellphone at our car window, smashing it. The glass shards hit my child,” Jayita said.
