KMDA urges Brace Bridge health audit

KOLKATA: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has sent a letter to the Eastern Railway authorities to conduct a health audit study of Brace Bridge The letter, sent by KMDA on March 13, requested the railway authorities to take necessary remedial measures for Brace Bridge, if and as required, to avoid any untoward incident. KMDA will provide technical assistance in this job if sought for by the railway authorities. Tenders have also been floated to select agencies for eight more flyover and bridges across the city. KMDA has urged the railways to treat the matter as urgent.After the Majerhat bridge collapsed in September last year, KMDA officials conducted preliminary inspections of all the flyovers and bridges under its jurisdiction in and around the city and a number of them were found to be in vulnerable conditions.KMDA has already engaged consultation agencies to conduct a detailed structural stability assessment and prepare a detailed project report for repair works on eight flyovers in and around the city.
