Man kills pet dogs commits suicide

Kolkata: A man killed his two pet dogs and later committed suicide by shooting himself at Joynagar in South 24-Parganas early on Thursday morning. According to sources, early on Wednesday morning, residents ofNarayanitala, Chowdhuripara, in Joynagar heard sound of firing from the Roy Chowdhuri family's house. When some of them rushed there they saw a person identified as Subhankar Roy Chowdhuri (47) lying dead in front of the main door and a double barrel gun was lying beside his body. Two of Roy Chowdhuri family's pet dogs were also shot dead. During questioning, his wife Shampa told the police that she was sleeping in a room on the first floor.

According to his family members, he was in huge debt and could not repay his loans. As a result, he went into depression. According to sources, early on Wednesday morning, residents of Narayanitala, Chowdhuripara, in Joynagar heard sound of firing from the Roy Chowdhuri familys house. When some of them rushed there they saw a person identified as Subhankar Roy Chowdhuri (47) lying dead in front of the main door and a double barrel gun was lying beside his body. Two of Roy Chowdhuri familys pet dogs were also shot dead. Joynagar police station was informed immediately. Later, police recovered Subhankars body and sent it for autopsy examination. During questioning, his wife Shampa told the police that she was sleeping in a room on the first floor. Suddenly she woke up by the sound of firing. Shampa also stated that Subhankar had borrowed good amount of money from several people and also bought an auto few months ago on loan. But, due to some reasons he failed to repay the money and the monthly installment for the auto. As a result, people who gave Subhankar money used to come for their money and also the company, which had given loan to Subhankar, seized the auto as he failed to pay monthly installments. Shampa told that the gun belonged to her father-in-law and was licensed in his name. Police are checking the documents regarding the arms license. As he was the only bread earner for his elderly mother, sister, wife and three year old daughter, Subhankars family members are in a tough spot.
