Tollygunge case 2 accused get bail

Kolkata: Putul Naskar and Purnima Das who were among the seven accused launching an attack on the police personnel at Tollygunge police station on August 11 night were granted bail after the duo was produced before a city court on Saturday. The other accused in this case who were also produced in the court have, however, been remanded in judicial custody up to August 20. The accused' counsels moved the bail petition in the court on Saturday. After being taken to the police station, Ranajoy called in some of his friends and claimed that the police were harassing him without any reason. More than 100 people gathered outside Tollygunge police station and the mob heckled the on-duty policemen.

The other accused in this case who were also produced in the court have, however, been remanded in judicial custody up to August 20. The two women were in the forefront when a mob was caught attacking the cops inside the police station complex. The accused counsels moved the bail petition in the court on Saturday. They were granted bail after the proceedings got over. Seven persons were arrested after the incident took place. The Commissioner of Police (CP), Kolkata, Anuj Sharma ordered immediate action and sought a report on the incident. Also, the Officer-in-Charge of Tollygunge police station, Anup Ghosh, was show-caused and later removed. On the night of August 11, the police, during a naka checking detained one Ranajoy for riding his bike in an inebriated condition. After being taken to the police station, Ranajoy called in some of his friends and claimed that the police were harassing him without any reason. More than 100 people gathered outside Tollygunge police station and the mob heckled the on-duty policemen.
