CBI grills Atri Bhattacharya for 2 hrs over Saradha scam

Kolkata: State Tourism department Secretary Atri Bhattacharya was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday afternoon, in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam. According to sources, during the tenure Bhattacharya served as the Secretary of Information and Cultural Affairs (I&CA) department, several advertisements were published in the media units of Saradha. Bhattacharya was also asked about a specific TV channel where the I&CA department had given the maximum number of advertisements. After Saradha owner Sudipta Sen was arrested, a large amount of money was provided to the channel for its hassle-free running. Bhattacharya was asked why he had taken those decisions and provided the advertisements.

He was grilled for almost two hours. According to sources, during the tenure Bhattacharya served as the Secretary of Information and Cultural Affairs (I&CA) department, several advertisements were published in the media units of Saradha. On Thursday, Bhattacharya was questioned about how many advertisements were given in the media houses owned by Saradha and how much money had been paid for the same. Bhattacharya was also asked about a specific TV channel where the I&CA department had given the maximum number of advertisements. After Saradha owner Sudipta Sen was arrested, a large amount of money was provided to the channel for its hassle-free running. His former department was even supervising the running of the channel for a few days. Bhattacharya was asked why he had taken those decisions and provided the advertisements.
