Explosion at firecracker factory

Kolkata: An explosion took place at an illegal cracker manufacturing factory at Charabad village at Bhagabanpur in East Midnapore late on Monday night. Local residents told police that the firecrackers' factory was running illegally flouting the norms issued by the state Power department. A fire broke out following the explosion and the factory was completely damaged. Local residents heard the sound of the explosion late on Monday night and found that the factory was engulfed in flames. The preliminary investigations also suggest that the factory did not have any fire fighting mechanism in place.

Kolkata: An explosion took place at an illegal cracker manufacturing factory at Charabad village at Bhagabanpur in East Midnapore late on Monday night. A man reportedly died in the incident. Local residents told police that the firecrackers factory was running illegally flouting the norms issued by the state Power department. The police and the district fire department visited the spot following the incident. They are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion. A fire broke out following the explosion and the factory was completely damaged. Local residents heard the sound of the explosion late on Monday night and found that the factory was engulfed in flames. Two fire tenders were sent to douse the flames. The district police also cordoned off the entire area to avoid any untoward incident. The incident created fear in people living in the adjacent buildings, who moved to a safer place. The firefighters brought the situation under control and extinguished the fire within a couple of hours. They ensured that nobody was trapped inside the factory. It is suspected that a 64-year-old man, who used to work in the factory, suffered severe injuries during the incident and died at the hospital. According to the preliminary investigation, the police and fire department officials suspect that a huge amount of fire crackers were stored inside the factory ahead of Diwali. The exact cause of the explosion is yet to be confirmed. The preliminary investigations also suggest that the factory did not have any fire fighting mechanism in place. The police are conducting a search to nab the owner of the factory.
