Elderly woman found dead in flat at Golf Green

Kolkata: The death of an elderly woman triggered tension in Golf Green area on Tuesday night. According to sources, Arpita Banerjee (72) of Golf Green Phase III was living alone after her husband Sajal Banerjee passed away a few years ago. Her daughter Soumita Sengupta lives in USA. On Tuesday evening, Soumita called up Arpita but got no response. On October 2, the decomposed body of an elderly woman was found from a flat in Bansdroni.

Kolkata: The death of an elderly woman triggered tension in Golf Green area on Tuesday night. The woman was staying in her flat alone as her daughter works abroad. According to sources, Arpita Banerjee (72) of Golf Green Phase III was living alone after her husband Sajal Banerjee passed away a few years ago. Her daughter Soumita Sengupta lives in USA. Sengupta used to call her mother regularly to check on her health. On Tuesday evening, Soumita called up Arpita but got no response. A few moments later she called again but still got no response. After several attempts when Soumita failed to reach Arpita, she called up some of Arpitas neighbor to seek their help. When her neighbours went to the flat and knocked, no one responded. After repeated knocks, when Arpita did not respond, her neighbours informed Jadavpur police station. After a few minutes, the police arrived at the flat and broke the door. After getting inside the flat, the police saw Arpita was lying unconsciously on the floor. She was immediately rushed to M R Bangur Hospital where she was declared brought dead. It is suspected that Arpita died due to a sudden cardiac arrest. Later, Soumita was informed and was asked to come to Kolkata. Meanwhile, she informed the police over phone that Arpita was suffering from high blood sugar. However, the exact cause of death canonly be ascertained after the autopsy report comes. After primary investigation no foul play was found. Also no injury marks were found on the body. On October 2, the decomposed body of an elderly woman was found from a flat in Bansdroni. Residents of Gitanjali apartment and people in the neighbourhood of Bansdroni Park sensed a foul smell in their area. When some of them tried to find the source of the smell, they found that it was coming from the flat of Keka Mukherjee. Bansdroni police station was informed. The police found the door of Mukherjees flat was locked from inside. Later, police personnel broke the door and found the body was lying in decomposed state on the sofa in the drawing room.
