Kolkata: Prince Singh, prime accused of Debanjan Das murder case in Nimta has reportedly admitted the crime. Earlier, his friend Bishal Maru was arrested by police on Saturday morning following which Singhs whereabouts was located. But investigating officials found some ambiguities in their statements. On Sunday, Singh was produced before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), Barrackpore and the court has remanded him to police custody for 14 days. According to sources, during interrogation, Singh stated that it was hard to accept that his girlfriend broke up with him and got involved in a relationship with Debanjan. To separate them he threatened Debanjan over phone and told him to cut off all relations with his girlfriend. When his threat did not work, Singh allegedly started planning to murder Debanjan. It may be mentioned that earlier after Debanjans father Arun Das was allegedly refused by police to register his complaint, he stated that Singh had threatened his son over phone and he is sure that Singh is the culprit. Based on Singhs statement, police said, he went to a friends flat somewhere in Kaikhali. There Maru joined later and they reportedly had interaction with Debanjan and Singhs former girlfriend. During the discussion about what to do to stop Debanjan, Singh became angry and decided to kill him. Sources informed that he asked Maru to follow Debanjan and inform Singh about his location time to time. On October 7, Maru followed Debanjan and informed Singh that his target is going towards Birati possibly to drop the woman. As soon as the information was received by Singh, he met Maru and started following Debanjan on a scooter. After dropping off the woman, Singh and Maru followed Debanjan and blocked his way. When Debanjan opened the left window glass, Singh allegedly shot him and fled riding Marus scooter. During checking of CCTV footages of the nearby area, police found two youths riding a scooter escaping the spot. Later, Singh went to his house and stayed for two days. After the reports came out in the media, Singh fled to his aunts house in Budge Budge to seek shelter. But the police are still not sure whether Singh and Maru were the only two persons who had connection with the murder. Sources informed that there are several discrepancies in the statements of Maru and Singh. Investigating officials suspect that there might be some other person who is connected with the murder along with the arrested duo. To find out the truth, the police may bring in Singh and Maru for a face to face interrogation.
