Kolkata: Three Bengal Womens Cricket Team selectors were seriously injured after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a parked truck on National Highway 2 in Burdwan. The trio and the driver of the car have been admitted to a private hospital in Burdwan, where they are undergoing treatment. According to sources, the selectors identified as Purnima Chowdhury, Shyama Sau and Chandana Mukherjee were travelling to Suri in Birbhum to watch a cricket match. They were then supposed to attend a selection camp at Dubrajpur to select players from there. They had started from Kolkata at around 7 am and 2 hours later near Palsit toll plaza in East Burdwan, their car rammed into a truck which was parked beside the road. Locals heard the sound of collision and ran to the spot. Police were also informed. Police personnel from Palsit police camp soon arrived at the spot and rescued the three injured women, along with the driver Biswajit Parida and rushed them to a private hospital in ambulances of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Meanwhile, the news of the accident was given to CAB by the police. Minister of State for Sports Lakshmi Ratan Shukla also came to know about the incident and took stock of the situation. "We are keeping a tab on the situation. Injured persons may get shifted to Kolkata. As of now all are stable," Shukla said. As per rules, no cars should be parked beside any National Highway. A case has been initiated against the truck driver for illegal parking, which led to the accident. Police have seized the truck and are searching for the driver. Earlier in October 2016, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee met with a similar accident while returning to Kolkata from Murshidabad. His SUV had rammed into a broken down car, which was being towed away to Singur.
