Railway services hit by protest over elderly s death

Kolkata: Railway services were disrupted as local residents blocked tracks in the Sealdah-Naihati section after an elderly man was runover and killed near Belgharia station on Tuesday. "Train services on the Sealdah - Naihati section of Eastern Railway's Sealdah Division were disrupted on Tuesday. Local residents blocked tracks for one-and-half hours in the Sealdah-Naihati section of Eastern Railway, after an elderly man was run over and killed near Belgharia station," said an official of Eastern Railway. Belgharia railway station, one of the busiest stations in Sealdah North Divison, is the railway station in the town of Belgharia. The second upgraded UTKRISHT RAKE of 13509/13510 Asansol-Gonda Express, 13507/13508 Asansol-Gorakhpur Express was introduced at Asansol Station by Eastern Railway.

According to sources, the incident took place at 10 am when the man was crossing the track along with her granddaughter. The UP Bardhaman local hits the duo in the main line. The man, identified as Rajat Dhar, died on the spot. "Train services on the Sealdah - Naihati section of Eastern Railways Sealdah Division were disrupted on Tuesday. Local residents blocked tracks for one-and-half hours in the Sealdah-Naihati section of Eastern Railway, after an elderly man was run over and killed near Belgharia station," said an official of Eastern Railway. He reiterated that railway lines between Belgharia and Dumdum stations were obstructed from 12 noon to 1.36 pm, before the agitators were persuaded to lift the blockade. RAF and GRPF were deployed to remove the protestors. "A number of suburban EMU trains in the section were delayed owing to the blockade," the official added. Belgharia railway station, one of the busiest stations in Sealdah North Divison, is the railway station in the town of Belgharia. It serves the local areas of Belgharia in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, India. The Madhusudan Banarjee Road connects the Barrackpore Trunk Road and Jessore Road through Belgharia. While the platform is not very well sheltered, it has many facilities including water and sanitation. It is well-connected to the BT Road. However, there is no proper approach road to this station. The second upgraded UTKRISHT RAKE of 13509/13510 Asansol-Gonda Express, 13507/13508 Asansol-Gorakhpur Express was introduced at Asansol Station by Eastern Railway.
