Bengal among least corrupt states in India says CM

Kolkata: West Bengal has emerged as one of the least corrupt states in the country, said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday, citing a recent survey conducted in 20 states. Banerjee's statement comes on International Anti- Corruption Day, citing the 'India Corruption Survey 2019' which was conducted by theTransparency International India and Local Circles. The 'India Corruption Survey 2019', which received 1,90,000 responses from people in 248 districts, stated that 51 percent Indians have paid bribe in the last 12 months. People in Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, West Bengal, Kerala, Goa and Odisha reported low instances of corruption, while Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand and Punjab had higher occurrences of corruption, the survey report said.
