KOLKATA: The first governing board meeting of St Xavier's University, Kolkata, will be held on Friday at the university's new Rajarhat campus . The board will be effective for a period of four years till March 2021.The board includes chancellor of the university Father J Velluswamy, vice-chancellor Father Felix Raj, principal secretary of the department of higher education Vivek Kumar, vice-chancellors of two leading state universities (pending chancellor's clearance), the directors of XLRI, XIMB and XIMJ, a member of the St Xavier's College alumni association and six principals from 52 Jesuit colleges in India."The new board will deliberate upon the inauguration of the first academic session of SXUK on the Rajarhat campus on July 7, courses to be offered, admission policies and procedures, fee structure, delegation of power to the VC and so on," said Felix Raj.The board members will then tour the newly built campus that is at the moment ready with a six-storey academic block. The G+5 floor academic block with 2.3 lakh square feet has four types of classrooms, including galleries and amphitheatres. The residence for VCs and the Jesuits named Britto House, with a sacred hall for prayer, will be inaugurated prior to the board meeting.At the board meeting, R N Jhunjhunwalla, attorney-at-law and executive partner, Khaitan and Co, industrialists Sanjiv Goenka and Sanjay Budhia and chairman and managing director, West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd, Santanu Basu, are to be co-opted as members.The inauguration is likely to see chief minister Mamata Banerjee , who has been closely following the university's progress, visiting the campus on July 7. UK-based Indian industrialist and Xaverian L N MIttal is also likely to be present that day.
