Environmentalist slams PPCB, Ludhiana MC for failure to curb water pollution

LUDHIANA: The environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal has criticised the officials of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and Municipal Corporation Ludhiana for their failure to find a solution to the Buddha Nallah which continues to pollute the Satluj river. Seechewal also visited a sewerage treatment plant at Balloke and he was disturbed to see the non functional treatment plant. He said there is need for the authorities to take action against the defaulters whether industry, residents or anybody else.He also conducted meeting with the PPCB chairman Kahan Singh Pannu over this issue. He said not only people of Punjab but also the residents of cities in Rajasthan are drinking this water resulting in diseases like cancer.Seechewal said he is ready to help the authorities because he cannot see people dying with such diseases.

He appealed to the officials of both departments to find a solution to this problem.Seechewal said he has solution to the problem of drain and it can be treated but the authorities first need to stop direct discharge of effluents from dyeing units and untreated water of domestic waste along with check on garbage dumping inside the drain.
