City swimmers come out triumphant in medley relayLudhiana: Swimmers from Ludhiana stamped their class as they came out triumphant in the boys’ and girls’ sections in group-IV 4 x 50-metre medley relay events on the opening day of the 32nd edition of the Sub-Junior Punjab State Swimming Championship that began at Delhi Public School Swimming Pool, Ferozepur, on Saturday. In the boys’ category, Ludhiana quartet clocked 3:11.36 minutes to finish well ahead of others to clinch the gold medal. Similarly, in girls’ section, Ludhiana team proved too good for its immediate opponents, whom they outperformed to lay their hands on a gold medal. In total, 219 participants in group-III (11 to12 years) and group-IV (9 to 10 years), representing 12 districts, are taking part in different events.

They were followed at the second place by boys from Mohali, who took 3:22.42 minutes, whereas the third position was secured by the Patiala district that took 3:52.26 minutes to finish at the victory podium. Similarly, in girls’ section, Ludhiana team proved too good for its immediate opponents, whom they outperformed to lay their hands on a gold medal. Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rana Gumit Singh Sodhi declared the championship open. Balraj Sharma, honorary general secretary, Punjab Swimming Association, along with other office-bearers of the association besides the representatives of district bodies and parents of swimmers were present on the occasion. — OC Other results Boys (group-III): 200-metre freestyle: 1st Parth of Mohali (2:40.18 m); 2nd Kanwar of Mohali (2:53.48 m) and 3rd Shivam Tayal of Patiala (2:53.97 m) Girls (group-III): 200-metre freestyle: 1st Arshpreet Kaur of Mohali (2:40.14 m); 2nd Mehakpreet Kaur of Jalandhar (3:14.33 m) and 3rd Jasleen Kaur of Patiala (3:26.57 m) Boys (group-III): 200-metre individual medley: 1st Parth of Mohali (3:01.76 m); 2nd Jaskeerat Singh of Mohali (3:15.39 m) and 3rd Avteshwar Singh of Faridkot (3:24.01 m) Girls (group-III): 200-metre individual medley: 1st Jasnoor of Mohali (2:52.46 m); 2nd Vardika of Mohali (3:02.37 m) and 3rd Hitakshi of Pathankot (3:31.74 m)
