Robbers gun down 2 at fuel pump

PATIALA: Two persons were killed as three men opened fire during a robbery at a petrol pump at Chamar Heli village on Patiala-Chandigarh highway on Sunday night. When truck driver Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Daun Kalan village in Patiala district, tried to stop them, they fired at him with a .32 bore pistol from a close range. He said the matter was still under investigations but from preliminary investigations suggest it to be a handiwork of some local criminals. However, the robbers shot them before he could even reach them.

PATIALA: Two persons were killed as three men opened fire during a robbery at a petrol pump at Chamar Heli village on Patiala-Chandigarh highway on Sunday night. The robbers , who were caught on CCTV cameras installed at the petrol pump, managed to flee from the scene with Rs 11,000 in cash, leaving behind the two dead.The incident took place around 10pm, when masked assailants arrived at Guru Nanak filling station on a bullet motorcycle. They threatened a petrol pump employee, Laddi, telling him to hand them the cash with him. When truck driver Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Daun Kalan village in Patiala district, tried to stop them, they fired at him with a .32 bore pistol from a close range. Kuldeep collapsed after a bullet hit him in the chest.Terrified, Laddi handed over Rs 5,000 with him to the robbers, who fled from the station after scaling an eight feet high wall on the rear side of the petrol station. However, before fleeing, they even took Rs 5,000 from Kuldeep after searching him.After hearing the gunshots, a resident of Alampur village, Davinder Singh , who was sitting at a dabha nearby, rushed towards the fleeing robbers. However, the robbers shot them before he could even reach them. The bullet hit him in his stomach and he fell on the ground.Senior officials of the district police were informed about the crime by a PCR stationed near a toll barrier, which is hardly 500 meters from the crime scene. Police investigators collected evidence from the spot and even scrutinised footage of CCTV cameras installed at the fuel station.Superintendent of police (headquarters) Kanwardeep Kaur said while all the three assailants had been caught on camera, they were yet to be identified as their faces were covered with handkerchiefs. She said the robbers were carrying two guns, including a .32 bore pistol, which was used in the crime.Additional inspector general of police Gurmeet Singh Chauhan, who is heading the state government’s OCCU which had gunned down gangster Vicky Gondar , also reached the crime scene to ascertain if the crime was committed by some gangsters. He said the matter was still under investigations but from preliminary investigations suggest it to be a handiwork of some local criminals.
