JEs pulled up for not ensuring cleanliness of road gullies

Road gullies in several areas of the city have not been cleaned as waterlogging was witnessed commonly during the recent rain. 68, 72, 73, 74 and 75 early morning and found that the road gullies were choked at many places. “Now, both engineers gave explanation that they had shortage of staff for cleaning the road gullies. They had earlier submitted certificates that all road gullies under their respective areas have been cleaned. Ludhiana, July 11 The Municipal Corporation has issued a warning to two junior engineers (JE) for allegedly giving false information and failing to ensure cleanliness of the road gullies in different wards. The matter came to light when Joint Commissioner Kulpreet Singh conducted a checking at different wards under Zone D after some councillors complained about choked road gullies. It is learnt that the officer checked various locations in Ward Nos. 68, 72, 73, 74 and 75 early morning and found that the road gullies were choked at many places. Kulpreet Singh, who heads the MC’s flood control unit, said: “I visited five wards of Zone D as some councillors had complained about non-cleanliness of the road gullies. In view of the monsoon, we had earlier given instructions to the officials concerned to ensure cleanliness of the road gullies in the city.” “Now, the warning has been issued to two JEs Manpreet Singh and Amritpal Singh, who are working on contractual basis. They had earlier submitted certificates that all road gullies under their respective areas have been cleaned. I found that the information given in the certificate was false,” said Kulpreet Singh. “Now, both engineers gave explanation that they had shortage of staff for cleaning the road gullies. They submitted wrong information in the certificates. We have given them the last warning. If they repeat any such mistake, their contract would be terminated,” he said.
