LUDHIANA: Newly-appointed municipal corporation commissioner Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar took over the charge on Tuesday, putting to rest rumours that the transfer orders of her predecessor Jaskiran Singh were being revoked.Yet to chalk out plans for the civic body, Brar said every work should be done on priority in MC, which was one of the largest in the state. Acknowledging that waterlogging on city roads was the biggest challenge, she said it was an old problem that needed immediate attention.Brar said she would ensure that the MC staff, particularly those on field duty, were on the job during working hours. “The condition of the city can improve only when field staff is on duty,” she added.She also aims to bring MC out of the financial crisis. “First of all, the focus will be on the civic body’s monetary health, as financial crunch can affect development works.”Soon after taking charge, Brar held a meeting with the heads of each branch separately.This is Brar’s third stint as city’s MC commissioner. She was at the same post in 2016 and 2017, too.Brar was known for strictness during her previous stints in the city. She was transferred in 2016 following a controversy over removal of hoardings of SAD-BJP leaders. She was, however, brought back after a few months.Earlier, there were rumours that the transfer orders of former MC commissioner Jaskiran Singh were being revoked as some of the Congress leaders were not in favour of his being moved out.
