With monsoon arriving, roads start to crumble

One such scene was witnessed on Kaka Marriage Palace Road where the roads had been blocked for repair resulting in traffic chaos. The residents also reported a small cave in near Kochhar Market Chowk. It is on the same stretch that the road had caved in a few months ago. Another road that was in shambles was College Road while entering from Fountain Chowk side. The same road had caved in some months back also.

LUDHIANA: With the city witnessing heavy rainfall , water accumulation on roads for long hours have made commute difficult.With incidents of water logging and damage to roads being reported from various parts of Ludhiana, the officials concerned are busy repairing damaged portions leading to traffic snarls. One such scene was witnessed on Kaka Marriage Palace Road where the roads had been blocked for repair resulting in traffic chaos. Similarly, cave in was reported on College Road, Shastri Nagar railway crossing, Haibowal and many other places.The civic officials had to dug up entire stretch on Kaka Marriage Palace Road near Saggu Chowk where road had caved in on Monday. Vehicular traffic was stopped on the said road and people, who were unaware that the road had been temporarily blocked for repair, had to take alternate route.Shashi Sharma, a private employee, said, “A long stretch of road has been dug up for repair work and there is no space even for the movement of two wheelers.” He rued that he was already late and now he would have to take a turn to reaching his office situated in Sarabha Nagar.A road cave in was also reported near Shastri Nagar railway crossing at two locations. One was along the central verge and other was near railway crossing. It is on the same stretch that the road had caved in a few months ago. The officials, however, claimed that there was problem due to digging of roads in every nook and corner of the city.Ludhiana mayor Balkar Sandhu said the damaged Kaka Marriage Palace Road would be repaired in 10-15 days. He added that the roads were getting damaged due to digging and on Tuesday he had received information about some telecom company laying cables near D zone office of the MC after which he asked the officials to stop the work immediately.Meanwhile, road in Sita Nagar near Bharat Nagar Chowk was also reported damaged after rainfall on Tuesday. Another road that was in shambles was College Road while entering from Fountain Chowk side. The residents also reported a small cave in near Kochhar Market Chowk. The same road had caved in some months back also.
