LUDHIANA: Supporting the demands of All India Motor Transport Congress ( AIMTC ), the local transport associations of Ludhiana too went on indefinite strike from Friday. No transporters will be accepting any goods for delivery till the strike is over. The strike is outcome of failed meetings between government and the representatives of transport bodies to bring diesel under GST and non fulfilment of their other demands.Giving more information, Charan Singh Lohara, former president of AIMTC, said, “There are so many issues bothering the transporters from quite sometime now and sadly the government has failed fully to address even a single issue so far. One of our major demands is bringing diesel under GST so that it costs cheaper and there is no price fluctuation as is the case now due to which we are made to suffer as we cannot revise the cartage everyday. In addition to this the insurance premiums have shot up so high that it has put huge additional burden on every transporter and facilities from insurers have remained the same all the while."Lohara also added, "Another big problem being faced by us is the regular hike of the tolls which is again leading to increase in our operation costs.
