MC defers allotment of parking sites on Ferozepur Road

The decision was taken after a meeting between deputy commissioner Pardeep Agrawal and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) representatives.The MC was supposed to float tenders for 12 parking sites. The court had directed to organise parking in service lane which was earlier used by the owners of complexes and malls. People will no longer have to pay anything for parking vehicles on this road. LUDHIANA: In a move to solve traffic congestion on the Ferozepur Road in view of the ongoing elevated road project, the civic officials have decided not to allot parking sites on the service lane running along the road, thus paving the way for wider lanes and smooth traffic flow. With the passage of vehicles and parked vehicles of visitors going to malls, the service lane used to get jam-packed during peak hours.

LUDHIANA: In a move to solve traffic congestion on the Ferozepur Road in view of the ongoing elevated road project, the civic officials have decided not to allot parking sites on the service lane running along the road, thus paving the way for wider lanes and smooth traffic flow. The decision was taken after a meeting between deputy commissioner Pardeep Agrawal and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) representatives.The MC was supposed to float tenders for 12 parking sites. However, soon after receiving directions from the DC office, they removed the sites from the list. People will no longer have to pay anything for parking vehicles on this road. With the passage of vehicles and parked vehicles of visitors going to malls, the service lane used to get jam-packed during peak hours. The officials claimed that they will ensure that no such issue crops up.As of now MC had allotted tenders for half of the service lane running along Ferozepur Road starting from Park Palaza to Ansal Plaza after getting directions from high court. The court had directed to organise parking in service lane which was earlier used by the owners of complexes and malls. The parking time limit was restricted to four hours only. Later, tenders were supposed to be floated for the service lane along the entire road starting from Jagraon Bridge till Octroi Post.While confirming the move, joint commissioner Satwant Singh, said they will not allot the parking sites along Ferozepur Road to contractor till the time the construction work gets completed. He said it will help in bringing respite from traffic jams on road.A commuter, Harpreet Singh, said passing through Ferozepur Road has become a tedious task since the construction work has started. He added that if the service lane is made available for movement of traffic, it will be a great respite to the commuters.
