LUDHIANA: A delegation of city industrialists led by chairman cum managing director of Avon Cycles, Onkar Singh Pahwa, on Monday met union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari at Parliament house. Punjab BJP chief and MP Shwait Malik too was present in this meeting.The agenda of the meeting was the revival of construction work of NH-44 in Ludhiana. Giving more information, Gurmeet Kular, president of Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation (FICO) said, "Our delegation met Nitin Gadkari today and we got a very positive response from the union minister. We explained to him how the Construction work of Panipat-Jalandhar Link of National Highway has been stuck for years in Ludhiana, especially near Sherpur Chowk.Due to construction work, the slip roads are the prime road for movement in Ludhiana and our biggest cause of concern is that inspite of such a big stretch of national highway passing through city Ludhiana has not been provided with any entry and exit point on each side of the National Highway. For instance at the Cancer Hospital Chowk, there is no proposed entry or exit point from the national highway. Which means when the national highway work is complete and its open for traffic there won't be a link for the local traffic."
