LUDHIANA: Civic officials have served notices to 29 dairy owners for running their units illegally in residential areas. Officials claimed the owners of these units were told to shift their dairies outside residential areas, failing which action would be initiated against them.The notices have been served in ward numbers 7, 9, 10, and 11, which includes areas like Shakti Nagar, Subhash Nagar, New Subhash Nagar, Tibba Road, and Bhagwan Nagar. The owners of these units have been given time until Monday, after which MC will snap the sewerage connections of those refusing to move out. All these steps are being taken to reduce the burden on the existing sewerage system.Confirming the move, executive engineer of MC’s Operation and Maintenance cell, Ranbir Singh , said they had served notices to dairy owners to shift their units outside residential areas, because they are not allowed to run dairies in colonies. He said such illegal dairies were choking the sewerage lines, because no separate arrangements have been made by the owners.Notably, according to an old survey conducted by MC, there were around 352 dairy complexes scattered in residential areas. This number might have increased, because the survey was conducted several years ago. According to MC officials, dairy owners do not listen to their instructions and keep throwing cow dung and other waste into the sewerage, making it necessary to take action against them.
