LUDHIANA: After passing of over two years, the civic officials have finally became successful in completing the first phase of works under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transmission (AMRUT) by making 28 tubewells operational. Though the work was meant to be completed by July 31, the electricity connections to the tubewells delayed the same.Started in 2016, under phase 1 of this mission, officials laid 225km-long water supply lines covering 24 wards of the city. The water supply has been provided to 35,000 households. The MC has installed 28 tubewells at various locations for ensuring water supply to the households, which were earlier facing acute water supply issues. The officials claimed that they have made last tubewell operational on Tuesday.The civic body has also installed water meters in these households for measuring the usage of water supply by the residents. Though the bills will be on fixed rates as of now, but in future the billing will be done according to the water meter policy as and when fixed by the state government.The superintending engineer of operation and maintenance cell, Rajinder Singh, while confirming the same said they have made the tubewells functional and first phase of the project is complete now. However, regarding the second phase he said a detailed project report for the second phase is still being prepared.
