Teachers demand regular jobs, hold protest in Patiala

PATIALA: Many teachers on Sunday staged a protest against the state government over their demands to regularise them as promised during the polls. They said that government asked the teachers to get Rs 10,000 enhanced monthly salary each year until their salary becomes equal to those of regularised teachers. They staged a protest at Mall Road in Patiala . They added that government gave another offer that teachers can join at basic salary to get regularised. The protesting teachers alleged that the government had failed to meet its electoral promise of regularisation after three years of their service.Earlier this month, the teachers marked their protest by polishing shoes on Teachers’ Day and observed it as a black day.

The protesting teachers alleged that the government had failed to meet its electoral promise of regularisation after three years of their service.Earlier this month, the teachers marked their protest by polishing shoes on Teachers’ Day and observed it as a black day. They wore black badges while teaching the students in the school.The teachers claimed that they want the government regularise them according to the rules. They staged a protest at Mall Road in Patiala . They claim that the teachers recruited under 5178 scheme had cleared their probation period of three years but the state govt had failed to regularise their services and give full pay scale.They claimed that they were paid low wages. The protesters added that the state government’s decision to give baseless offers cannot be justified. They said that government asked the teachers to get Rs 10,000 enhanced monthly salary each year until their salary becomes equal to those of regularised teachers. They added that government gave another offer that teachers can join at basic salary to get regularised. The protestors said that it is not possible for any employee working at Rs 35,000 a month to join the state education department at a basic salary of Rs 10,000-15,000 per month.
