Cash, valuables stolen from trader’s house

LUDHIANA: Employed 15 days ago without police verification, a domestic help from Nepal has allegedly decamped with cash , jewellery, and other valuables from the house of a plywood trader. On Monday evening, the family lodged a police complaint, after which a case was registered. He added that on Sunday evening, he and his wife went to the market to buy groceries. Vijay said the accused had broken open the locks of the almirahs.Assistant sub-inspector Tarsem Singh said the family had not done Gopal’s police verification.

LUDHIANA: Employed 15 days ago without police verification, a domestic help from Nepal has allegedly decamped with cash , jewellery, and other valuables from the house of a plywood trader. On Monday evening, the family lodged a police complaint, after which a case was registered. The accused has been identified as Gopal (19).In his complaint, Vijay Kumar of Vivek Nagar stated he had employed a domestic help 15 days ago through the colony’s night watchman, Shankar, who is also from Nepal. He added that on Sunday evening, he and his wife went to the market to buy groceries. When they returned around 10.30pm, he was shocked to see the house ransacked. On checking, he found that Rs2 lakh in cash, jewellery worth Rs15 lakh, two laptops, and other valuables missing. Gopal was also not present at home. Vijay said the accused had broken open the locks of the almirahs.Assistant sub-inspector Tarsem Singh said the family had not done Gopal’s police verification. They did not even have his picture. The police have been questioning Shankar about Gopal’s whereabouts. They are also investigating whether anyone else was involved in the crime.On August 9, another Nepal-based domestic help, Vikram, too had allegedly escaped from a house in Gurdev Nagar after stealing Rs10 lakh in cash, 1kg gold, and Toyota Etios car. The family had gone to a relative’s house at that time. A few days later, cops recovered the car in Salem Tabri. However, so far, Vikram is absconding. In this case too, his employer had not got his police verification done.Importantly, Ludhiana commissioner of police Sukhchain Singh Gill has said police verification of tenants and workers was mandatory under Section 144 of CrPC.
