Seeking change, man flees with Rs 41,000 from shop

He sought change for Rs 500. LUDHIANA: A man entered a shop on the pretext of getting change for Rs 500 and escaped with Rs 41,000 in Jodhewal on Sunday evening.Rajinder Kumar, 40, the shop owner, said in his police complaint, "I run a shop of printing chemicals from my house near New Azaad Nagar, Jodhewal. As soon as my son opened the drawer to give him change, the man picked up a bundle of Rs 41,000 and sped away on his bike." Around 5pm, a man parked his bike outside the shop and barged in. On Sunday, I went out for work and my 14-year-old son was looking after the shop.

As the 14-year-old raised the alarm, neighbours chased the man, but he managed to make good his escape.The boy apprised his father of the incident when he returned home around 9pm. "I checked the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the nearby houses. One of them had captured the thief. I have submitted the footage to the police," Kumar added.Jodhewal police station assistant sub-inspector Surjeet Singh said, "A case has been registered under Section 380 (theft) of the IPC. The police have traced the locality of the accused - who has been identified as Pandu of Lohara. Raids are being conducted to arrest him."
