Punjab: Doctor booked for allegedly killing 19-yr-old girl during anaesthesia

PATIALA: The civil lines Patiala police have booked a retired civil surgeon under sections of IPC including negligence causing death following the death of a 19-year-old girl who was operated in the private hospital of the accused doctor.The police claimed that the accused doctor allegedly had given a high dosage of anaesthesia medicine to the girl following which she died while the case against the doctor was registered only after the medical examination report was tabled before them.The police revealed that the deceased identified as Manleen Kaur , 19, of Tripuri area in Patiala city was rushed to the private hospital of the accused in Badungar on September 10, 2018. The father of the deceased claimed that Manleen complained of pain in her lower abdomen and doctors claimed it was Hernia problem that needs immediate surgery.The complainant Rajwinder Singh of Tripuri told police that he rushed to Sahara hospital in Badungar to get his daughter treated. Rajwinder further told the police in his statement that the accused doctor injected medicine for anaesthesia to further operate her however the girl did not get awake after the operation. He said that Manleen was shifted to another hospital but the doctors there declared her brought dead.Investigating Officer in the case, sub Inspector Mewa Singh said, "The girl was taken to Sahara hospital where she died because of the doctor’s negligence who overdosed the patient during anaesthesia process. The girl’s father, a farmer, lodged a complaint with us but the investigation was marked into the matter. The post mortem was conducted and the reports were sent for examination. Now after the reports are tabled we have registered the case against the doctor after taking legal advice. No arrests have been made but the accused will be nabbed soon. The medical examination reports have confirmed that the overdose of anaesthesia medicine was the main cause of the death.”The IO added that the accused doctor was running a private hospital after getting retired as a civil surgeon a few years back.
